The Theatre Company that Walks

Views across Northumberland

During the summer of 2021, theatre company, November Club launched Walk in Your Shoes, an initiative set up after lockdown to re-engage with audiences.

November Club walked over 126 miles of St Oswald’s Way across beautiful Northumberland, from Hexham in the west to Spittal in the north. The incentive was a new way to connect with audiences after Covid-19 and introduce theatre safely in gardens and outdoor spaces with ‘Doorstep Theatre’ presented at Hexham, Great Whittington, Thropton, Felton, Amble, Longhoughton, Lowick and Spittal.

The walk proved so popular that November Club brought the initiative back in 2022 and 2023. Each year the company chooses a different route in Northumberland and audiences are invited to walk, chat and meet new people.

Fresh air and walking are so important for our mental health that we really want to continue providing these walking opportunities. So please do join us, either with friends or on your own, we’ll make you welcome.
— Joe Hufton, Artistic Director

Walk in Your Shoes, Dod Law, 2023.

“I have done several walks with November Club and always enjoyed them. Great to meet different folk. Sunday's walk was full of very interesting historical facts about the area, many were new to me. For folk on their own it’s a good way to meet others and walk in a safe environment.”

Previous walkers have said:

Walking with a group of people who were together for a common purpose; good conversation, a shared experience, a sense of being part of history with the people who have walked that way in the past.

Walk in Your Shoes, Holy Island, 2021

“Hearing the life stories of new people that I wouldn't otherwise meet who all have a shared love for culture and Northumberland.”

As a huge walker I enjoyed participating in the well organised walks, finding new paths and meeting really nice, interesting people.
— Walker
